Carol Lewis Named BCMH Volunteer of the Year
Bates County Memorial Hospital is proud to recognize Carol Lewis as the 2025 Volunteer of the Year, announced during the hospital’s annual Auxiliary Recognition Banquet on April 24.
Carol has a long and meaningful history with BCMH, having retired in 2020 after 32 years of service. She began her career in Medical Records in 1988 and later served as Director of Quality and Risk starting in 1992. It didn’t take long for Carol to return to the hospital in another vital capacity—volunteering.
Since June 2021, Carol has brought her deep knowledge and steady leadership to the BCMH Auxiliary, taking over as treasurer for the hospital’s Gift Shop and later expanding her role to manage the overall Auxiliary budget. With years of bookkeeping experience from her family’s farm operation, Carol applied those skills to help the Gift Shop grow more efficient and profitable—aligning with the volunteers’ goal of financially supporting the hospital.
Though she initially planned to volunteer one day a week, her commitment quickly grew. Carol implemented inventory systems, partnered with HR and IT to train on the new register system, and has become a go-to resource for volunteers navigating new technology. Her quarterly financial reports are detailed, clear, and easy for the group to understand, allowing for informed decisions that benefit the Auxiliary’s mission.
In recognition of her service, Carol was presented with a plaque, certificate, and a decorative clock during the banquet. Her thoughtful leadership and willingness to go the extra mile continue to make a meaningful impact on BCMH and the entire community.
