Auxiliary’s Operation Socks 2025 a Success

Bates County, You Did It Again!

Our volunteers gathered in early November to sort and divide the socks for all area schools. Pictured, from left, are: Gay Keene, Susie French, Lora Padley and Charlotte Guss.

For the past two months, our community has been coming together to collect socks for local students in grades K–12, and the results are heartwarming. Thanks to donations from both employees and community members, our BCMH Auxiliary volunteers collected hundreds of pairs of socks during their annual Operation Sock-It-To-Me project.

After the collection period wrapped up, our volunteers spent time carefully sorting and organizing the socks, preparing them for distribution to area schools. From there, school counselors will take over, making sure the socks reach the children who need them most. It’s a simple item with a big impact, keeping kids comfortable and confident throughout the school year.

This annual project wouldn’t be possible without our volunteers’ dedication, especially Lora Padley, who leads the effort each year. Coordinating collections, sorting donations, and organizing delivery takes a lot of time and energy, and Lora’s leadership ensures everything runs smoothly.

Whether you’re a BCMH employee dropping off a pair of socks in the lobby or a local resident donating at a collection site, your support matters. This project is a wonderful reminder of how our community rallies together to care for its youngest members.

Thank you, Bates County! Because of your generosity, children in our local schools will have the socks they need to feel comfortable and ready to learn. We are proud to be part of a community that steps up year after year.
