From Farm to Field: Orthopedic Care That Fits Your Lifestyle

Life in Bates County doesn’t slow down for sore joints or nagging injuries. Whether you are working the land, maintaining your lawn and garden, or just trying to keep up with a busy summer, it’s easy to push through pain … until it starts pushing back.
At Bates County Memorial Hospital, our Orthopedic Clinic is designed to meet the needs of active people living and working in our community. From the physical demands of farming and trade jobs to the weekend hustle of yardwork, youth sports, and lake time, our care fits your pace.
Dr. Jon Blake is an orthopedic surgeon, bringing 20 years of general orthopedic surgery experience to our community. Patients may see Laura Noble, FNP-BC for their initial assessment. Laura works in close collaboration with Dr. Blake and sees patients in the orthopedic clinic four days a week, providing faster access to care and a head start on recovery plans. Together, the team also performs a full day of orthopedic surgery weekly.
Injuries We See, and How We Help
Some of the most common conditions our orthopedic team treats:
- Rotator cuff tears
- Meniscus injuries
- Arthritis-related joint pain
- Overuse injuries
- Fractures
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Trigger Finger
“Pain is your body’s way of telling you something’s not right. A lot of people hesitate to make an appointment because they assume surgery is the only option—but that’s not always the case,” says Dr. Blake, DO, orthopedic surgeon at BCMH. “In many situations, especially with arthritis or overuse injuries, there are non-surgical treatments that can work really well, and that’s why it’s great to have Laura here. We are not just here for surgery, but when you need it, that’s why I’m here.”
Laura’s availability means patients don’t have a long wait time to get specialty care, and when you’re dealing with pain, that can mean a lot.
“Overuse injuries are especially common in the summer when people are more active,” says Laura. “We see a lot of strain from gardening, yardwork, or getting back into sports or outdoor projects. Being active is great, but too much, too quickly, can catch up with you.”
