Thank you for trusting Bates County Memorial Hospital for your care. If you have any questions or need assistance while you are here, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a nearby employee or volunteer. We are all here to help make your experience as convenient and comfortable as possible. This Patients and Visitors Guide is provided to help you prepare for your appointment or inpatient stay.

  • The hospital’s front entrance is open from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • During evenings and weekends, the front entrance doors are locked. Please use the Emergency Department entrance on the south end of the facility.  Parking is available.
  • ADA service animals only.
  • BCMH is a tobacco/vaping/marijuana free campus.
  • No solicitation.
  • Video surveillance is in progress.
  • Weapons are prohibited.

When You Visit a Patient:

  • Kindly check with the nursing station before entering a patient room.
  • Smoking is not allowed in the facility or on the hospital grounds.
  • Please comply if asked to leave the room while a patient receives care.
  • Please check with the nurse before bringing a patient anything to eat or drink. Do not give patients sweets, alcohol, cigarettes, or medicine.
  • Please do not eat the patient’s meals; the staff must record how much the patient is eating.
  • Please do not visit the patient if you have symptoms of illness.
  • A family member is asked to stay with all pediatric patients under the age of 12. A lounge chair and a dietary tray will be provided.

Quiet Hours

Please help us observe quiet hours on the inpatient floor between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am.

Meals and Snacks

Meals: The cafeteria and dining room is open to the public seven days a week. Coffee, tea and water are available at no charge.

Cafeteria Hours:
  • Continental Breakfast – 6:30 am to 10:00 am
  • Lunch – 11:30 am to 1:00 pm
  • Supper – 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm (Please note that the supper menu is on a pre-order basis only, unless otherwise noted on the menu. To order, please call 660-200-7000 Ext. 7179 before 3:00 pm.)

Snacks: Vending machines with snacks and beverages are located in the cafeteria and in the hallway leading from the Emergency Department to the Hospital. Beverages and snacks are also available in the hospital’s Gift Shop.

Gift Shop

Gift shop hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and closed for lunch from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. A variety of gift, apparel and comfort items are available. Gift shop gift cards are also available. Our gift shop is managed and run by Auxiliary Volunteers of BCMH. Each year they gift a portion of their proceeds to BCMH to be invested in equipment and other items that benefit patient care.

Spiritual Care

Recognizing that spiritual well-being is one aspect of total health care, the mission of the Spiritual Care Program at Bates County Memorial Hospital is to provide spiritual support and quality pastoral care to our patients and families. We observe the highest standards of compassion and professionalism, while respecting the faith systems of all. Volunteer chaplains are available to be a supportive presence during your hospital stay. A nurse can arrange a visit with a chaplain. In addition, the hospital’s non-denominational chapel is open 24/7 to patients, family and friends. The chapel is located in the front lobby area east of the information desk and entryway.

Visitation Rights and Individual Consent

Patients and their representatives have the right to receive visitors they designate and withdrawal designation without restriction, limitation or denial based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability.

Bates County Memorial Hospital retains the rights to restrict visitation due to extenuating circumstances such as emergency situations, contagious outbreaks, incidents that interfere with the care of patient(s), and the like.
