This month, Bates County Memorial Hospital (BCMH) recognizes and thanks Jim Shade for his 20 years of dedicated service on the Board of Directors.
Jim attended his final board meeting on March 25, 2025, marking the end of two decades of commitment to the hospital and the community. Before the meeting, BCMH CEO Greg Weaver presented him with a plaque in appreciation of his years of leadership.
Jim was first elected to the board in 2005, and over the years, he played a key role in strategic decision-making, financial oversight, and quality care initiatives. He served on several committees, including Building Utilization, Finance, and Quality Management.
His connection to BCMH began long before his board service. In 1975, Jim started his pharmacy career at BCMH before co-owning a local pharmacy in Butler for over 40 years. His dedication to healthcare extended beyond the hospital, as he also served on the board of the Bates County Health Department in the 1980s.
Jim and his wife, Beverly, have raised their family in Bates County, and they continue to call it home while frequently visiting their granddaughters in Kansas City.
Reflecting on his time at BCMH, Jim shared: “I’d like to thank the hospital staff and employees for making my time as a board member so memorable. I’ve truly appreciated the opportunity to work alongside such a talented and dedicated group of people. THANK YOU.”
BCMH extends heartfelt thanks to Jim Shade for his many years of service and dedication. His contributions have helped shape the hospital’s future, and his presence on the board will be greatly missed.
