Meet Dr. Brian Heiniger, BCMH’s New Ophthalmologist

Bates County Memorial Hospital is pleased to introduce Brian Heiniger, MD, an ophthalmologist who will begin providing surgical services at BCMH one day each month starting September 16.
Dr. Heiniger practices comprehensive ophthalmology in the greater Kansas City area with Grin Eye Care, with an emphasis on cataract and refractive surgery. At Bates County Memorial Hospital, Dr. Heiniger will provide cataract surgery and other ophthalmic surgical procedures one day each month.
“I am looking forward to serving the patients at Bates. I grew up in a rural area, and one of my passions is being able to give back to rural communities like mine,” he said.
Dr. Heiniger sees patients locally two days each month at Noe, Miller, and Miller, a Butler-based optometry practice. Appointments for Dr. Heiniger’s local clinic visits are scheduled through Grin Eye Care at 913-829-5511.
Dr. Heiniger grew up on a family farm near Fairview, Kansas, and attended nearby Hiawatha High School. After graduation, he attended Kansas State University, where he majored in Kinesiology. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and received the J. Donald M. Gass Award for excellence in ophthalmic education and research.
He completed his internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by his ophthalmology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. During his residency, Dr. Heiniger served as both Clinic Chief and Surgery Chief resident.
Dr. Heiniger enjoys spending time with his wife, Anne, a speech-language pathologist, and their three children. His other interests include sports, exercise, travel, agriculture, and spending time outdoors.
Dr. Heiniger has been named a Top Doctor by multiple publications, including Kansas City Magazine, Find a Top Doc, and Castle Connolly. He has also been named a Rising Star by Castle Connolly.
